GAA Respond to President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2010 Budget Request
Statement by Global AIDS Alliance Executive Director Dr. Paul Zeitz on President Obama's FY2010 Budget Request (February 26, 2009)
The Administration is repeating its great commitments to doubling the US commitment to fighting global poverty and diseases like AIDS and malaria, but the budget released today doesn't get there. If Congress doesn't help, this will be the first budget in five years without a major increase in the commitment to fighting AIDS.
These programs are proving that America's compassionate power can have a far greater influence around the world than anything else. If we fail to increase these programs this year, the President and Congress will miss a critical opportunity to reposition the United States' place in the world.
